HENDERSON, A. H., D. L. BRUTSAERT, Mr. Mr. PARMLEY, AND E. H. SONNENBLICK. Myocardial mechanics in papillary muscles of the rat and cat. Am. J. Physiol. 217(5): 1273-1279. 1969.-Species differences in myocardial mechanics were studied in rat and cat papillary muscles. The intrinsic velocity of contractile element shortening (V,,,) was 3 times higher in the rat at comparable low frequencies. Resting and developed tension at the top of the length-tension curves was similar, but time to peak tension was 3 times shorter in the rat while peak rate of tension development (dT/dt) was correspondingly higher. Increased rates of contraction in the rat were associated with decreases in V,,, and dT/dt as well as in time to peak tension. In the rat at low frequencies contractility was not further augmented by paired stimulation, whereas at higher frequencies this increased contractility but, in contrast with the cat, did not shorten time to peak tension. Isoproterenol significantly shortened time to peak tension in both species and increased contractility but only slightly at low frequencies in the rat. These species differences imply basic differences in the control of intracellular calcium movement or in rates of the contractile process.

Type of Aerobic Training Effect on Cardiac Muscles MIR29A and Collagen I Gene Expression in Diabetic Male Rats
Objective: High intensity interval training (HIIT) and continues aerobic training have cardio-protective effects in diabetic rats. The aim of this study was to compare the effect of HIIT and continues aerobic training (CAT) on MIR29A and collagen I gene expression in heart of diabetic male rats. Materials and Methods: In this randomized controlled clinical trial, 18 male diabetic rats were stu...
متن کاملRole of oxidative stress in the aortic constriction-induced ventricular hypertrophy in rat
Introduction:Severe abdominal aortic constriction above the renal arteries induces arterial hypertension above the stenotic site that is the cause of cardiac hypertrophy. Previous studies have shown that high blood pressure induces myocardial oxidative stress with conflicting results. In the present study, we assessed the effects of acute hypertension on the myocardial oxidative stress an...

Background and Aim: Previous studies have shown that arterial hypertension induces cardiac hypertrophy and myocardial oxidative stress. The aim of the present study was to assess the effects of treatment by atorvastatin, as an antioxidant, to prevent myocardial oxidative stress and cardiac hypertrophy in hypertensive rats. Materials and Methods: In this experimental study, 20 male Wistar rats w...

Introduction: Cardiac remodeling after myocardial infarction, is associated with progressive ventricular dysfunction and cardiovascular death. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of endurance exercise training on morphological changes in rat heart tissue following experimental myocardial infarction. Materials and methods: Rats used in this experiment (8-10 weeks old, 235 &p...
متن کاملThe effect of asafoetida essential oil on myocardial ischemic-reperfusion injury in isolated rat hearts
Objective: Previous studies reported that asafetida from Ferula assa-foetida Linn. species and its essential oil (AEO) have antioxidant effects. In the present study, the effect of AEO was evaluated on ischemic-reperfusion injury in isolated rat hearts. Materials and Methods: Forty-eight male Wistar rats were divided into 6 groups: 1) control group, 2) vehicle group, 3-5) AEO groups and, 6) car...
